The History of Taiwan and China

In 1910s, there was a man, whose name was Sun Yat-sen, established a new party and new government. The party’s name was the Kumintang of China (KMT), and the government’s name was the Republic of China (ROC). In fact, the government only controlled several provinces. There were many different groups controlled the other provinces.

In 1920s, in order to control China, Mr. Sun decided to fight other groups. During the war, Mr. Sun died. And then, Chiang Kai-shek became new leader of ROC.

In 1930s, after civil wars, ROC became the biggest group and controlled China.

In the early 1940s, during the World War II, for fighting against Japan, Mr. Chiang asked Mr. Mao, who was the leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC), to help ROC. After World War II, CPC had a civil war with ROC because Mr. Mao wanted to get the control of China.

In 1945, ROC was a member of United Nations (UN) and nominated the permanent member to UN.

In 1949, CPC won the war, and Mr. Mao established the People’s Republic of China (PRC). ROC and KMT retreated to Taiwan.

In 1971, due to the fact that PRC got the control of China, UN made a decision that PRC should be instead of ROC. Although, the United States tried to help ROC and submitted a new proposal to UN, it did not work. Finally, PRC in and ROC out.

Disneyland

I have been to Disneyland many times. My profound memory is the first time I been to Disneyland. I went there with Elaine, my sister, nephew and niece. I was so excited because this is my “first time.” Before, I just watched the TV commercials and advertisements, and then imagined it. At that time, I looked like a child because Disneyland is my dream place since I was five or six years old.

We only went to Disneyland Park because we did not have enough time. I saw the castle but I felt frustrated. The castle did not as huge as it was in commercial. It was pretty small. Anyway, I still wanted to take picture with the castle. After that, we went through the castle and went to next place. Suddenly, I saw the Spiderman on the top of mountain where near the castle. It was amazing. I told my nephew and niece quickly. We looked at the Spiderman. However, he did not do anything. Later, he opened a door and walked into the door. The Spiderman was gone. My nephew and niece felt sad. I told them “The Spiderman has to take a break. He will come back soon. Now, we go to another place first and come back here later. Ok?” They trusted me and went with me. Finally, we did not see the Spiderman anymore. My nephew and niece also forgot him.

Next, we went to Mickey’s house and Minnie’s house. In order to see Mickey and Minnie, we spent two hours on the line. For having their autographs, we bought the book and pen. However, seeing one time was not enough for my nephew and niece. They visited Mickey’s house and Minnie’s house many times. There was one thing I interested in. I could not understand Mickey’s autograph. It just was a picture, not an autograph. Whatever, I did not mind because they were happy. We did not go to the other places. We stayed there and took care of them. I also took picture with Mickey.

Finally, we went home after fireworks. Both my nephew and niece had a good time and me, either.

DISNEY HALL

Have you ever seen an amazing building? There are many amazing buildings in the world, like Taipei 101, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, and Sydney Opera House. If you are going to go to Los Angeles, you have to visit Disney Hall. This building is the main music center in Los Angeles. I have a lot of information about Disney Hall. I am going to talk about the architecture, music, tickets, and location.

Disney Hall has a beautiful appearance which was conceived by Frank Gehry. His concept was a ship; he designed Disney Hall as a sailing ship. The building was made of metal. The metal looked like a mirror and it was very shining. If you look at Disney Hall from all view points, you will be surprised and amazed at this building because it looks like a space shuttle. It is so modern and fashionable that you will not forget it. Frank Gehry also designed an organ which looks like French fries; you can find it inside the building. Disney Hall is unusual and you can not find another building like this in the world.

Disney Hall has many kinds of music, like the classical concerts by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Jazz, the Baroque program, world music, and chamber music, etc. There is a great music program in March 2, 2008. It is Jazz music. The program’s name is, “A Tribute to Ella.” You also can find the information about other music programs, artists, and composers on the Disney Hall homepage. All of the programs are very popular in the U.S.A. You really should enjoy these music programs.

How do you buy the tickets? There is an easy way. You can buy them online. First, you use the internet to search the Disney Hall homepage. Then you will find a link about tickets. Click it and you can find all the information inside. You also can buy the tickets by phone, fax, and e-mail. The tickets usually cost less than 150 dollars. The price depends on which program and which seat you choose. There is an important thing you should know. You have to go to Disney Hall at least 30 minutes before the program’s start. You can easily find parking spaces and your seat.

The address of Disney Hall is 111 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012. It’s in southwest corner between First Street and Grand Avenue. If you drive your car or ride a motorcycle, you just take the 110 or 101 freeways. It’s on the southeast corner between the 110 and 101 freeways. You can also choose Metro Rail or bus. If you take Metro Rail, you take the Red Line and stop at Hill Street. This station is on the southwest corner between First Street and Hill Street. You can find Disney Hall on the west side. If you take the bus, you have to find the bus number or get information on the bus company’s website: http://www.mta.net/.

In conclusion, Disney Hall is beautiful and has popular music programs. Every visitor enjoys that, and this is the reason why Disney Hall is a famous building around the world. After you read this all information, I hope that you decide to visit Disney Hall sometime soon.

The Earthquake in My Country

In 1999, there was a devastating earthquake in Taiwan, the day was September 21. I was a student in college. While the earthquake happened, the time was 1:47 am, I was sleeping in dormitory. I woke up immediately when I felt that. Then the alarm bell was ringing. I felt everything was shaking. Suddenly, the bookcase where on the corner was falling down. My roommates and I were so scared that we ran out of the room. On the corridor, I saw everyone was running. However, the earthquake was so strong that we had to walk along the walls. Then we ran out of dormitory. We found an open space and stayed there. At the same time, the earthquake was still working.

We had a conversation about the earthquake. I said, “I have not seen a grisly earthquake in my life.” One of my roommate said, “Me, either. I think it must be a high magnitude earthquake.” Another roommate said, “Magnitude six or seven, probably.” Later, the police of school came to us and said, “Everyone fine? Just stay here, do not go anywhere. We will come back soon. Take care.” I saw the trees were shaking and the windows of building were crumbling. Even though everything came apart, there had good news. Our buildings were pretty strong. No one fell down. Only some buildings had few fractures. The earthquake was still working.

Thirty minutes left, I tried to call home; however, my cell phone and pay phone both did not work because the electric power system was broken. Although I worried about my family, I could not go anywhere at that time. We stayed there until 8:00 am. The main earthquake was stopped but there still had a few happened lightly. We sat on the ground and ate some bread that the police gave us. The tap water system also broken so we just had bottle waters.

Until noon, the earthquake almost finished. The president of school made a decision that everyone went home and stayed with family. So he asked the city government to help us. On the way, I saw many buildings toppled down. Freeways and bridges were broken. Fires and accidents happened everywhere. I remembered there were many tall buildings in the city but at that time, just ruins. The prospects looked like the end of the world. When I arrived home, everyone was fine. I was so happy and give them a hug.

Soon many countries and the International Red Cross helped us whatever we are not the member of the United Nations or we do not have diplomatic relations with these countries. After earthquake, the government did an investigation of the calamity. Thousands of people died and wounded. Finally, we spent several months rebuild our country and home. Until now, I believe that perhaps you can imagine the view I saw. In your mind, my story may is similar to the movies but it truly happened in my country.

The old fool moves a mountain

Long time ago, there was an old man lived in northern China. There were two mountains to the south of his house which blocked the way to the downtown. One was called Mount Taixing, and the other was called Mount Wangwu. Everyday, old man had to spend five hours crossing through the mountains. One day, the old man and his sons decided to move the two mountains with hoes. At the first day, when they were working, there was a young man laughed at them. He said, “Are you foolish? There is absolutely no way that you can move the two mountains.” The old man replied, “Although it is a mission impossible, I will not give up. After I die, there are my son, my grandson, and their sons and grandsons, etc. Even though these two mountains are tall, they won't get any taller. If we dig a little, there will be a little less. Why can't we keep digging until it is flat?” The old man refuted the young man's thought and did not waver in his confidence. The old man and his sons worked hard. They did not stop, even they were sick. A few days left, the God heard this news and impressed by the old man. The God decided to help them and asked two spirits down to earth to move the two mountains away. Next day, the old man found the mountains were gone. Nobody knew what happened and who moved the mountains. Only the God knew.

P.S
I have a question for the God. Why did not you just move their house?

My English Class

The first time I learned English was in junior high school. My English teacher was a young lady. She was pretty but austere in teaching.Students had a lot of homework and quizzes next class.

In the first class, the ABC’s looked like strange words I had never seen. However, I was interested in it. For me, memorized ABC’s was pretty easy because it only had twenty-six letters. After that, the teacher taught us pronunciation, a few vocabulary words and grammar. Several weeks left, there were a lot of vocabulary words I had to memorize. I studied hard; nevertheless, I could not memorize all of the words. The class could not stop for me and had to keep going.

In our culture, teachers would punish students if their grades were bad. At that time, I had many weals because my grade is good in the beginning but it was getting worse in the middle of class. Finally, I got a “C.”

In my country, besides big cities, the students only had two or four hours for English class each week when I was a teenager and they did not learn the composition, speaking and reading.

In short, I believe that most students will forget English after school. Even though I study English for ten years, my English skills are still poor.

My First Day in America

Here is a story about my first day in America. I came from Taiwan. I was so excited when I arrived Los Angeles National Airport. Everything was interesting for me. For example, on the way to checkpoint, there were many people from different countries I had never seen before. In checkpoint, I was on the line for security checks. I felt sad because there were thousands of people on the lines. Could you image the lines as a river? I would probably wait for half hour or one hour. What could I do? Just wait.

Later, it was my turn. I was so nervous because my English was pretty poor. The police asked me to show my passport and I-20. Then he asked me some questions. However, I did not understand what he talked about. I just realized one question. He said, “Why are you come here?” and I answered, “Study English.” I did not answer the other questions. I just smiled at him. One minute later, he did not talk to me anymore. At that time, I guessed he might give up talking to me. I believed nobody want to talk to a wall. Then for security checks, he took a picture and checked my fingerprints that I already done when I applied the visa.

After that, I picked up my stuff and went to lobby. As a result my plane arrived thirty minutes early, I had to wait for my relatives. Nevertheless, I did not want to wait. So I tried to call them by pay phone. I put coins into the phone and pressed the number buttons. Then nothing happened, the phone did not work. I tried that about twenty times but I did not give up. I tried to find another way. I found there was a hole on the phone box. I thought that hole was for phone card so I bought one. Whereas, it still did not work. Suddenly, there was a sentence in my mind, “What’d duck. What’s going on?” I was so angry because the phone card cost me twenty bucks.

Then I went to bathroom. I got an idea when I was pee. I thought the phone card might need password so I checked the back of it. I found the password and tried to call them again. You know what. It did not work. I felt so chapfallen and gave up.

Finally, my relatives found me. On the way, I asked them how to use pay phone and told them what happened to me. Then all they were laughing because the pay phone was different from our country’s. I should call the number first and put coins into the phone next.

In short, this is a horrible experience. I will not forget about it.

Chien-Ming wang

There are many popular and famous people in the world, like Bill Gates, Michael Jordan, and J.K.Rowling. How do they successesd? It is long stories. Today, I will tell you a special person whose name is Chien-Ming Wang.

In the beginning, he is a baseball player of New York Yankess. He came from Taiwan, and his job is a pitcher. This year is his third year in this team. He won nineteen games last season, but he also lost seven games.

Second, he is so pudency that the reporters can not get more information from him about his opinions and feeling of the game. One of them said, “I never heard anything he said have been more than ten words.” Another reporter said, “It is very hard for us to write any news about him.” He is the best player in Yankess and pretty quite so we called him “Quite Ace.”

Finally, his personality is modest and brave. For example, when he won the game, he always said, “It is a great teamwork.” However, he usually said, “It is my faults.” while he lost the game. Sometimes, he was in trouble during the game, he tried to solve it. He never gave up.

In my opinion, Chien-Ming Wang is very famous in Taiwan now. So he is a model for young people and teenager. People will learn something from knowing his personality and behavior. In the future, he may becomes a symbol of Taiwan, and a lot of people will know Taiwan with knowing his background.

Marketing

The economy of the world is decreasing at present. Many factories were closed and in the red. I believe most people do not understand Marketing. Today, I will talk about it. There are there important parts of Marketing.

First of all, the most significant part is market investigation. Before design products, we should know what people want and what people like. For example, people like take pictures, take videos and listen music. In order to content with them, cell phone companies designed many phones including those capabilities. So market investigation is a cornerstone of Marketing.

Next, advertisement helps to sell goods. Manifold advertisements can appeal to different people. In sentence, a diamond company invented a slogan “A Diamond Is Forever.” to show girls the meaning of diamond. Then girls will buy their products. In the cause of increase your revenue, you may make a great advertisement.

Finally, the last part is customer service. A good service always helps a company make new customers. For example, “ACER”, a computer company, is located in Taiwan. If the products you bought have any problems, you just take them to fix stations. The company promises that your stuff will be fixed in one hour. Right now, more and more people like this brand and buy it. Customer service also can help a company to improve the quality of their products.

In short, all parts of Marketing have relations with people. People should be in the first place in your mind. Every step you did

Super Tuesday ( Clinton V.S Obama )

In Taiwan, most people are political fanatics. Every vote of legislators and president, the voting rate is about 70%. Many people watch talk shows about politics everyday and talk about it in leisure time. In history, we do not have a woman president. Today, we have one in 2nd place of government.

In U.S.A, there are two candidates,” Clinton and Obama.” Who is better? We do not know. However, do you ever think~~~
A. If Clinton won, it may means that the racial discrimination is more serious than the sexual discrimination in this country.
B. If Obama won, it may means that the sexual discrimination is more serious than the racial discrimination in this country .

What does American think? What do you think? It is so interesting.
Let’s see. What will happen in the future?

English Writing

There was someone said, "Writing is the most important part of learning a new language.” For most students, writing may very easy but for me is pretty difficult. In fact, I do not like writing.
When I was in junior high school and senior high school, my writing skill was so poor that my grade was very low. You know. In Chinese, my writing is bad so I probably have same situation in English writing.

First, I spend a lot of time to get ideas. Sometimes, I have no ideas of questions, and my ideas are too less to write. Sometimes, my ideas are not clear or no examples support my ideas.

Second, my vocabulary skill is poor. I always use simple words in my writing. I do not have enough words to show my ideas, even my feeling.

Third, my writing speed is very slow. After I got ideas and wrote down the beginning sentence, I usually do not have enough time to write. Also, my typing is bad.

In short, although writing is a challenge for me, I still want to try it and do my best.

What's up!!!!
